rashio rana: everything is happening

(Photo from the Cornerhouse flickr.)

Visited the cornerhouse the other day to see Rashio Rana's work which is currently being exhibited. A lot of clever use of collage and images, some of which are disturbing yet thought provoking.

You should definitely check it out if you're close to Manchester, it's on till the 18th of December and admission is free. More information here.

Just a short post here, I should really start scanning my work and upload it on here! I've already done quite a lot now that I am more than halfway through my first term of uni.

a day of galleries

There are often many great galleries, exhibitions and events happening on our doorstep, yesterday I went to see a few things on in Manchester and another lovely day was had.

There were some stunning works in the Dark Matters collection at The Whitworth.
I wasn't able to photograph my favourite thing about yesterday, which was a large, dark room with a glass sculpture and a light which spun and projected the shadows of the forms onto the wall. It was really beautiful, like you were in a spinning world of shadows. I think it was a collaboration by several artists, you should really go and check it out while you can!

There was an interesting exhibit in Manchester Art Gallery about works surrounding the theme of Manchester and Mancunian artists.

Rachel Goodyear's work seems to be everywhere! You may recognize her work from my last post from Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Some evoking pieces by David Hockney and Lucien Freud.
Aaaand I managed to snap some pics from the Grayson Perry exhibition, before I was told not to!

yorkshire sculpture park

I had a lovely time with the boyfriend yesterday at Yorkshire Sculpture Park! Lots of interesting works and beautiful scenery, I particularly liked the drive up there through country roads. Admission is free so you should definitely go and see it, it's a great idea for a day out and a good opportunity to see some current artists.

elizabeth blackadder

Just looking for some visual inspiration for my weekly drawing task, which is an observation of a collection of objects you own. Elizabeth Blackadder has some lovely illustrations, I admire the choice of colours and textures she uses, and also the way she thinks about quirky compositions and arrangements. I remember studying her wayy back when I did my btech, and now I have rediscovered and fallen in love with her work.

sister jane

A lovely brand spotted on Asos.

I should really update as it has nearly been a month since I started uni! I've been so busy.

Basically I lived in halls for the first couple of weeks, but now I have decided to move back home and commute. It just wasn't for me and I'm a lot happier now. Hopefully there will be someone who can lease my room. It just makes sense when I'm only in two days a week and an hour away on the train.

In terms of the Illustration course I have been enjoying it and look forward to what it will bring. I've already had loads of work to do with weekly deadlines. During the first year they are really trying to get us in touch with drawing, mark making and still trying and testing new skills. They don't want use to have one style or any gimmicks, as we are still developing as artists.

I'll get some stuff I've been doing up on here once I get decent photos and scans!

by the sea

I went to Wales with my family earlier this week. We went to the Welsh Mountain Zoo and Llandudno beach. I like walking along the shore, you can forget about trivial things and paddle like a kid.
I have to share this red panda's ridiculously cute face. He was asleep, but every now and again he'd pop his head up to have a gander at us. :)

The above outfit is one of my favourite go to, casual ensembles at the moment. The top is from Topshop and my trusty basic skirt is from H&M. It's good for work and general wear, I usually wear it with tights but for seaside purposes I wore leggings on that day. You can see the look on lookbook, here.

I got my welcome pack from uni the other week, things are really dawning upon me now.

Art wise I feel a bit stuck for inspiration and hope I will get back into things when I start the course.

I have been listening to a lot of 90's hip hop and have nearly finished reading American Psycho. It's way more grusome than the film. :(
